The Cat Sanctuary

The Cat’s Crossing Foundation at Birds of a Feather School

The mission of CAT’S CROSSING FOUNDATION is to provide "a second chance at life" for unwanted and abandoned cats. The foundation was established decades ago when Swope was made aware of the large numbers of animals who were being euthanized at a local shelter simply because they did not have enough space, or because the animals were older or disabled and were deemed "unadoptable." A strong believer in Life, the cat family grew quickly and includes cats who are deaf, blind, old or with "special needs." Private pet owners and families have chosen to bring their felines here, avoiding the threat that their cat be euthanized if taken to a shelter. The name of the organization was created because the cats literally "cross" from impending death to a second chance at Life. We rely on donations to support the cats, who live together freely in the house and studio with the artists. Every cat is special, and they are given all they need to live out their natural lives in peace within a loving environment. It comes as no surprise that the cats inspire artwork by Carbaugh and Swope! If you can help with donations of food or money, or know who can, it is always appreciated.
